ACSM Certified Personal Trainer APEX Certified Personal Trainer Education University of Kansas, BA, English Klee’s first experience with exercise program design was in 1991 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. After placing 10th in the 5-day Cycling National Championships Tour, he was invited to a training camp for young athletes. It was there that he was first introduced to techniques like heart rate monitoring, high-intensity interval and strength training for incredible fitness results. After racing at the national level as an amateur for almost 10 years, Klee attended the University of Kansas for English. It was a completely different direction, but he stayed active, adding gym workouts, yoga and hiking to his regular cycling routine. After a successful career in insurance sales, Klee decided to go back in the direction of fitness full-time. Moving to Scottsdale in ’03, he transitioned into personal training: “Scottsdale is a great place to be involved in fitness and health because so many people are conscious of these concerns. Training never really seems like a job. Helping people create better health, fitness and self-confidence everyday feels great.” Klee began as a certified personal trainer with 24-Hour Fitness and soon after established his own private service: "I can really focus on an individual’s goals because I work with fewer trainees, and most of them stay with me for at least a year. Being independent also gives me the freedom to use any method of training to get the best results.” At 34, Klee intends to continue building his training and fitness service in Scottsdale and Phoenix. He is always continuing his education to keep up with the latest ideas in training, health and fitness. A Few Thoughts on Training “I prescribe the least amount of training and intensity that brings noticeable and continual improvement. This gives you more time and energy for your real-life outside of the gym.” “There are so many misunderstandings regarding weight loss and toning. I sometimes have to ask new trainees to try and forget everything they’ve read in magazines.” “’Normal’ aging isn’t normal. Much of the mental and physical decline associated with aging is due to disuse rather than by design.” “Change is the only constant. Use this to your advantage.” “Few people have a truly low metabolism. Metabolism is mostly related to your lifestyle and can always be increased.” “Do the best you can, remembering that some days that means just showing up.” “Dreading a work-out is frequently caused by associating exercise with a lack of results and also residual fatigue from lifestyle, including lack of sleep, chronic stress and poor diet. Both of these problems are solvable.” Recommended Reading Younger Next Year: A Guide to Living Like 50 Until You're 80 and Beyond by Chris Crowley and Henry S.
